Would it be possible to somehow copy or transfer a preset made on the computer to the lightdesk ? The lightdesk we'd be using is an Avab Congo.

    thanks,
Hi have you asked to Avab too ?

No XML as far as I can see, but am waiting for their response to my question in mail.

DMX in would be the most expedient way of doing it. After all the Hog 2 has been able to do this for donkey's years...

Isn't there an ESTA ASCII file import standard that's supported by AVAB desks?

    ETC says :

Congo does not directly support XML files, because it is a completely
open standard and there are any number of possibilities for valid XML.

If Catalyst can export a USITT ASCII file containing this data then
Congo may be able to import it depending on the exact subset of USITT
    ASCII chosen.

Otherwise, can you send me a copy of the XML file (and any associated
XML dtd or schema files) so I can figure out what data is there and if a
simple conversion utility will be possible?

these type of things are never simple.

    and specs always change.

the catalyst presets are in a semi-coded form - to stop people from editing them manually - because they may or may not reflect any external protocol. They are not designed to be edited or translated.

The best way to communicate with a lighting console - would be using a language it implicitly has to understand - like DMX.

Clear. So a DMX input snapshot function of some sort on the desk would be a ++ i guess ..

As I said - it was something the Hog II could do and that was released over 11 years ago!
