    Raid Drives

The world of Raid Drives is new to me.

    Mac Pro 2.6gb
    I have 1 x 250gb boot drive. Catalyst application.

2 x 250gb striped Raid Pair (500gb) where media is stored.

I have been reading up on raid drives and I am wondering if I would be better with a mirrored raid config.
It is my understanding that this would improve seek times.
I am also wondering if this would help when sending same content to 2 outputs.

raids are not that useful unless you need uncompressed footage -for a specialised application.

there is also quite a bit of difference in the tested performance of raid sets with different drives-
suggest if you are serious you try using 10000rpm raptors in your raid

but really - for the most part - you are better off with a single fast scsi drive.

in fact - with your setup - you should test with your raid - then test without the raid - just use a single sata drive.

    do you see any difference?

It would be interesting to know. My guess is that a single raptor would be quicker than a 2 x 7200 SATA RAID. Happy to be proved wrong though;-)
