Thread: Codec, FPS and other annoying things

Codec, FPS and other annoying things

    I have a Mac Pro 2.6ghz
    geforce 7300 cards x 2
    2gb ram.
    Catalyst 4.05 DV

I was having problems when running the same graphic on both outputs.
The 2nd output was up to 2sec behind output 1.
My immediate reaction was the Graphic Card.
With Richards assistance and some patience it was discovered that:

The digital Juice content that I had bought was sorensen codec and 60fps
Most of my other "collected" content was 25 or 30 fps and photo jpg.
I am still trying different combinations and will let folks know how its going.

My content is a real mish mash of codecs and fps after being handed down by many a rocket scientist.

    Thank god for compressor.
Many Thanks Richard for your patience.
    Stay Tuned.

Did the Digital Juice clips come with the Juicer software? That is the easiest way to convert to what you need.

Is the stuff you bought the tunnels and Music stuff that has been on Idol? I have the same collections but converted it all to DV using Juicer. It has all worked well since.

    Juicer

Converting has not been the problem.
It was/is more the case of several combinations.
Mainly in all my other stuff.
Going from one layer to the other with different Codecs
produces freezes, stutters, layers out of sync.

    ie: looks shitty!!

Selection of some media crashes catalyst altogether.

I used compressor as I am used to it.

What did you convert them to??

Yes I have been using them on Idol.

I pretty much use Photo JPEG @ 75% (at 60% if I go higher than Standard Def) or DV Pal.

Also, beware of interlacing, especially with DV. I have deinterlaced a bunch of stuff I have picked up in my travels. Clips will play fine in Quicktime player but in Catalyst they will stutter and you can see the jagged edge of the separate fields. I once forgot to set this in Juicer and it was a disaster. All the Jumbacks had that sawtooth effect. Had to go back and re render them all again!

    Cheers

    Reference Layer

Have been messing with the reference layer and it has made a "huge difference" on playback.
The system is performing quite well.
It is obviously worth taking the time to sort all the bits out.

I may be slow but I get there in the end.
