    SDI Out

    Hello Masters!

Could you plesase help me in solving this Q?

I have two Catalyst who work fine. A customer wants to have SDI OUT for distribution purposes.
Can i install a SDI OUT Card in my G5´s?
I thought i could use a BlackMagic Decklink card. But that is only SDI IN or what?

    All the best.

no you cannot use a sdi out card and get sdi out.

You have to get a scan convertor which converts vga or dvi to sdi.
There are quite a lot of these available.
I dont know the best of cheapest ones.

he probably wants to convert vga to sdi.

    Thanks

    Hi
Thanks for fast replies! The Miranda Stuff is great, but not quite what i want.
I´ll guess i have to talk my customer into some other solution.

there are a lot of rackmounted sdi convertors from vga out there.
to suit different budgets and different requirements.

the miranda thing is not representative.

what does your client want to do?

extron makes a more representative box to do vga to sdi conversion,
many other companies do these boxes.

    S-Video to SDI

    Hi
Thanks for all the nice links, i got an idea. The Radeon 9800 has a S-Video out, is that supported by the Catalyst software at all or is it working just as it is?
Then i could get a relly cheap way of solving my problem. These converters are pretty common and does just what i want.
What my customer want to do is just not having loads of Coax and amplifiers since the Catalyst racks are a long way from the LEDscreen.

i have done shows where the led screens are run from the composite or s-video output from the 9800.

composite looks a bit shit around the edges, but sometimes its fine for what the client is aware of.
    You just have to check.

You can output composite or s-video directly from the mac using the retail 9800, and catalyst will work with the outputs.

What you must do is actually have a video device connected to the system when you boot it up.
The 9800 cards senses the output on the composite connector, and if it doesnt see a 75ohm resistive load, it assumes no video device is connected or present, and does not give you the option of outputing composite video.
