The combination of the stop playing at zero playmode and the 8 layers will make life much easier.

One technique I've been using in short time situations is to set all of my layers for verse, chorus, bridge, tag into a base cue and use the intensity of those layers on 4 separate cuelists dropped in 4 separate faders. This way I can just bring up the verse or chorus when I feel it coming on without even having to have hear the song before. With 8 layers, this will be extremely helpful in these types of situations.
