TECHNICAL MANAGER

59 Productions is a rapidly expanding design and production company with offices in London and New York. While we specialise in the design and implementation of video and projection in live performance, our team also works on a wide variety of projects across the creative industries including installation and exhibition design, interactive and app development, and film production. Recent high-profile projects have included the design of the David Bowie Is exhibition at the V&A, all of the UK and international touring productions of War Horse and Les Miserables, and the video design and production for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games.

We are looking for a full time technical manager with strong, proven technical abilities and excellent organisational skills to join our expanding team at our London studio in Hoxton. The role will be primarily office-based, and will involve designing and testing systems, specifying hardware and procuring equipment and components, and forming relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the technical staffing and support of 59?s new and existing shows and projects. This will include checking show reports every day and following up on any matters arising, planning ahead to ensure adequate technical support for each project, arranging the handover of information amongst technicians and associates, keeping all technical documentation up to date, and sourcing and booking freelance programmers and other technical staff well in advance of each project to ensure all technical requirements are fully serviced.

The job will also involve some on-site work, including installing and troubleshooting systems, providing support, and managing technical teams as required.

As well as project-based responsibilities, the role will also include the management and upkeep of 59?s internal network and other IT systems, as well as overseeing 59?s inventory of hardware and software.

The role will also involve research and development, keeping abreast of new technologies as they arise, and leading the development of bespoke systems and components that 59 is developing.

Proven experience of work in the world of theatre, live music or events is a must, as is a strong desire to take on new challenges and acquire new skills.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

At least three years' professional technical work in the world of theatre, opera, live music or events.
In depth knowledge of media server programming and systems, especially Catalyst.
Excellent understanding of all standard show control protocols, DMX, MIDI Artnet etc
Excellent understanding of computer networking.
Excellent IT skills and in depth knowledge of both Mac and PC systems.
A solid understanding and experience of CAD (Vectorworks or Autocad.)
Experience as a lighting programmer.
Experience of managing a team and a budget.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Useful but non-essential skills and experience include:

Experience as an IT manager
Knowledge of software and/or app development
Salary of £33,810
