    RS-232 or dmx?

    Hi all,

Any suggestions/advise for a touring production: RS-232 or dmx when controlling shutter, lamp on/off?
Dmx: response box: http://response-box.com/gear/new-fie...e-dmx-to-rs232. This would also allow us to control focus, zoom,... .

Or ethernet to serial for shutter, lamp on/off and webinterface for focus, zoom,... ?
For this option we're thinking about buying some magenta cat extenders/receivers with rs-232.
I suppose we would need 4 keyspan usb serial adaptors if we have 4 beamers to control seperatly?

    Thanks,

    P

It really depends on what projector you are using... Catalyst serial control is pretty comprehensive and easy to do, and you can do this DMX control. I'd need some convincing before buying a third party device, when you can do most of what you want to do from a simplex RS232 point of view with in Catalyst and control it from DMX too(shutter control, lamp on, lamp off etc). I would prepare to be underwhelmed by zoom and focus control as this tends to be rubbish on many projectors from a show control point of view.
