    layer control by midi

hi, i have a simple korg midi controller and i'd like to control catalyst layers faders from this controller, but can't understand how to do that. Could somebody explain me step by step how to connect midi controller to catalyst and let him to control layers?

Even those of us who are experts can't easily figure out a Step By Step way to do this for ourselves. If you are very familiar with OSC, there are abilities to use OSC to trigger commands.

However you are much better off to use the HTTP text messages that are documented in the Web docs that come with Catalyst.

Unless you have a very good grasp of IO, MIDI, and how devices interface, then I suggest you not try to jump into this with any high hopes.

Better to use a DMX console...
    or
Software based DMX lighting packages: MA / Hog / Chamsys

There are certain MIDI controllers that are already pre-configured for use - see 'MIDI controller' section of catalyst control window.

the problem is that midi doesnt map very easily to catalyst -

because midi only has a restricted range of values possible on controllers-

    thats the main problem -

and the fact that every midi controller works in a different way-

i have tried a lot of them over the years-

and tried to make them map easily - but its always difficult

    Hi,

don't know if this will be of any help to anyone attempting to use a midi controller to control layer intensity in the future, but it seems to me that the intensity of layers 1- 8 respond to midi messages on Channel 1, CC values 81 - 88

You can view incoming midi messages in Catalyst Control, look for Midi Controllers about halfway down. Select an appropriate output (doesn't seem to work if you don't) for you attached device, and set the channel to Channel 1. The device should be on Behringer BCF to work with these settings. If you setup layer one so that you can see it respond onscreen to intensity changes, it can help whilst tinkering with settings

The other available devices (eg Mackie Control Layer 1 - 8) are mapped differently...
