    3D objects

    Hi Guys,

I'm need help on creating a 3D object with only one side of the surface mapped with contents. Is there any help files available?

There is no documentation that i know of relating to 3D objects in catalyst.

You need to create your object in an external application like 3D Studio Max or similar - this is the clever bit as it idefines how the video is mapped over the object.

Then import the object in to catalyst:

Create a folder called 'Models' in the same folder as the application.
Name your model files using 3 digit numbers like movie files.

    000Model1XXX.obj
    001Model2YYY.obj

You can either use it within a mix - or on a layer if you need more controls than the mix offers...

    check these 2 posts too:

    Hope this helps...

You need to define where the image appears using UV texture coordinates.
I've never got it to work, I'm not sure if this is because of what I was doing in the modelling software or because it doesn't work in catalyst.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on

Be sure that you define the object as single sided in your modeling program (ie - only having a "surface normal" on one side). This should, theoretically, only map to the one side when your UV texture map is applied.

I've never tried it myself with Catalyst though.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for all the help. Got through my show smoothly and it work out all great for me.

    Just some thoughts and questions.

    1) I tried applying a 3D object into my mix but I realised that there is no way I could rotate my 3D object. The rotation in the mix only allows you to rotate the images in the object. Can we have the rotation feature for 3D objects in mix?

    2) Beside the 3D model topic but I realised that I could changes my artnet in universe to the prefered universe I want to patch. The default patch is starting from universe 0-3. Is there any way I could change that?

    1) - 3D rotation tools would be usefull in the mix settings as well as the scale and position.

    2) - Ignore what catalyst says in the 0-3 artnet universe - its just how it has to be reported for catalyst to show up on a network.

Catalsyt will listen to ANY artnet universe - so you can patch to a more convenient one, other than 0-3 if required - just select it in the catalyst control window as normal - and patch your desk accordingly.

    So UV texture coordinates worked?
