Strange behavior by using 3d objects

Just saw some strange behaviors when playing around with 3d objects in m329.
My concern was to create a cylinder for mapping a 360 degrees camera picture on it's surface. This object basically works fine until I start rotating it by the y-axis. After some degrees of rotation it turns from a circle into something which could be drawn by M.C. Escher as well.
    Anyone recognized this before?

    Cheers
