    use catalyst as a "jukebox"

    Hi there

One of my costumers want a touch screen where he want to control between approx 15 movies. I was thinking about making a webside in fullscreen mode and there have 15 buttons wich will trick the catalyst via http commands. I´ll thinks that it will work fine.

But now he wants when the selected movie is finish that another movie starts and continues until you select a new movie. So now I´m lost. Anybody with a good trick??.. Is it something with me making cuelists ??

    Hope someone can help
    With my best regards

    If you use 3 layers:

Layer 1&2 is default in background all the time (or running a cuelist of different movies 1&2 crossfade)

Layer 3 can be the 'jukebox' layer (above) which triggers one of 15 single movie cuelists

By using playmode>0 on Layer 1&2 - it can be paused as part of the 'jukebox' presets if you fade out the intensity.

If you know the length of each of the 15 movies, you can sort out fade at end of play by using timecode in each cuelist.

Do contact me if you need some help - the cuelist part shouldn't take too long to configure - especially if you already have a web-page which can trigger presets or cuelists already

    Hi simon

Thanks for the hint.. I just getting more and more happy discovering what catalyst can do. So if i understood you right. Now i have made a cuelist that plays that one movie wich has to be the loop that always plays. And then i have to make another cuelist that controlles the the jukebox. And in that i will make: 1 load movie preset, 2 fade in the movie, 3 fade out the movie at the end. 4 a pause in the cuelist. And i will make the same for all the jukebox movies in that cuelist. Right??

    Best regards

    yes

create presets for your main loop using only layer 1 & 2 and put these in a cuelist with internal time to fade between the number of presets you have created

create 15 presets with 1sec fade in for each 'jukebox' movie (snapshot layer3)
create 1 preset with just intensity layer3 ONLY at zero (no other parameters)

each of the 15 cuelist starts with one of the 15 presets and starts internal timecode running
2nd cue fades out intensity (layer3) at the desired timecode (end of movie)
    then resets cuelist
(its a bit like creating a timed self releasing cuelist on a hog)

you should end up with 15 jukebox cuelists and 1 main loop. You can trigger each cuelist from the webpage.

Havent got time this week to show you a programmed example - let me know the timescale of your project and I may be able to help next week.

this is a bit tricky if the length of the movies changes - as i dont have anything that waits until a movie stops playing-

i did this on a show last year-
i do do this kindof thing for installs - but normally the client has such specific requirements - i write some code to do what they want.

    It is working perfect...

When catalyst is starting up preset 1 is starting as well.this preset runnes the background movie on layer 1 When a user want´s to see a movie he triggers a cuelist wich a preset loads the movie on layer 2, another preset is fading the intensety up in 2 sec. the last preset is set to with the time of the of the movie length to fade the movie out again. Then you again see the baground movie on layer 1 playing. Perfect.....

The reason that i have choose to use the catalyst for this is that after approx 300 live jobs with the cat still are very happy with the stabelity of the system. The only time that i have had any trouble with the catalyst was at the time were the LD started the same HD 1080 movie up on 8 layers at the same time. That killed the CAT.

    Glad its all working

8 layers of HD would kill most macs... you might get 4 using a good SSD. (uselayer is a great feature!) It will be interesting testing the new macs to see what they do

    yes and yes

    to loop:
if you havent already - name the cue you want to loop back to (2nd column - ie give it a cue name.)
Drag the 'GOTO' button to the (end) of the cuelist and select the cue to loop back to (the one you named) from the drop-down box on the GOTO cue.

    set time:
You can also set the timecode to a specific value (inc zero). Drag the stop button on to the cuelist. Click on 'stop' command and change it to 'set time' and adjust the time to required value.

    See pic attached
(obviously, set time cue would never be reached in this example - but it is an alternative option depending upon requirements)
