Thread: Maximum Quicktime File size

  1. #11
Luckily we will only be running one movie at a time.

As for format, I'll be receiving a sample range of what the designer can produce. I will have this several weeks in advance.

The AIC codec is not 'limited' to installing additional software. It is freely available on the web. All you have to do is copy 2 files in to the correct locations... (info also freely available on the web...)

AIC at PAL resolution on a G5 would be sufficient. You dont need to necessarily render at the DL1 native resolution (1024x768) - G5 and SCSI is OLD technology - although can still work with gentle persuasion.

I dont know what your budget is - but its worth getting a quote for an Intel Mac as a backup if plan 'A' doesnt work out for you... Do drop me a line.

Simon you are correct in general , but Chris said he need one movies only and the graphic designer already make a 1024x768 . If he need one layer only a resolution of 1024x768 will be ok . why not using the full resolution of the Dl1 if possible?
( IF ONE LAYER ONLY )

True - G5 will probably do this ok - and if you connect to the DL1 via RGBHV, theres no reason why you shouldn't use its native resolution. However, if you distribute from the catalyst to DL1 via SDI or composite, theres little point rendering above PAL (or NTSC)

I am using the same system I have used previously. Output 1 splits to the monitor and to the CIB converter to RGBHV and from there to two DL1's. Outputs 2 goes through a converter to S-Video and feeds into the house projector.

The stock content is 640x480, and looked fine last year. I asked my designer to get me some samples in this size and the generic Quicktime (most universal) format.

I expect this would do for my application. These are background images for a christmas show.
