    sound card for xserve ?

Hello, I need to build a server for an installation witch will run 365 days per year.
The system need to be fully automated and it need to have minimun human support.
I could use a Mac Pro for this since it's easier to setup the needed hardware such as the video card and the sound card, but the Mac Pro does not have light out management it does not fit on racks and it does not have redundant power supply.

So I'm trying to build this media server with xserve for the reason I explane above .

As video card I've found this ATI Radeon X1300 witch is good for my kind of application since I need to run a quicktime movie 1400x1050 Animation

For the sound I wish I could not use an external firewire card to minimize possible issues like power supply fault ( most firewire card are sold with little powersupply and very cheep power connectors ) Also I want to one machine that integrate all the features , I don't want different little cards .

So I'm searching for a PCI Express card to be integrated in the Xserve that could output 6 discrete audio channels from my quicktime movie.

Does anyone know any good one ?

    thanks

never used or tested - catalyst sound output is through core audio - via quicktime. cant make any further comments on whether they will work.

the rme cards arent multichannel analogue - only digital.

as are the lynx- mostly digital output only.

    Just a thought Emiliano,

Try using an old G5 with a RAM disk. If all you're running is a single output, it should work fine. I have a venue with 2 G5 Cats that are running HD with no problem.

For the cost, you could have G5 2 machines (primary and backup) so long as your volume of content isn't hugh.

Memory on a G5 is cheaper per Gb than Mtron.
