    Midi Triggers

    Hi,

From the catalyst QList i want to send midi commands to other software (arkaos, powerpoint/keynote or logicpro,...). How does catalyst handles this and how do i set this up? I havent found any info on that.

I just need to trigger with midi, so a program change or control change would be enough.

you don't need Midi to trigger Keynote , you can use AppleScript .

Richard added AppleScript support since few release now .

What do you need to do exactly ?

I need to send a midi message (program change or control change or ...) to trigger the slides in powerpoint or keynote. The triggers would go into the cuelist.

I already did the presentations but if i have the time i will redo them in photoshop/FCP and use them directy in catalyst, but as always time is short.

    this might be a bit late now, but if you are triggering keynote and power point files you might find this interesting;

    http://www.keywebx.com/keyshowx.html

you can then write an apple script to trigger next, prev etc.

I can help with this if you dont know applescript -it's reasonably straight forward.

Richard has now added an interface for midi command outputs but you can also type hex directly into the custom serial and output midi that way.

Don't make things more complex than they have to be. Just screen capture your slides as JPGs (use a higher rez screen). Then you can load the slides into Catalyst.

If you are using a separate Mac (Macbook) to run PPT or KN then just slip in a Catalyst Lite dongle and since you are just running JPGs you won't have to worry about performance issues with movies.

This of course does take into account that you're using DMX and have the channel real estate.

FYI, it is very easy to get a hand held MIDI trigger that can step a cuelist forward or backward on a DMX console. I do this for presenters instead of allowing them to use PPt or KN.

    MIDI is serial.
If you know the serial code for your command, it is possible to write it in a catalyst serial box and route it to a usb-midi device (instead of a usb-serial device)

Before Richard put all the new MIDI devices in the recent versions, this was the only way to to it - and it still works as a simple solution
