    TCI/IP Serial Question

I've used Avocent ESP4 -MI serial servers in RAW TCP server mode so Catalyst makes the connection to it on start up very successfully before.

Is it possible to have two Catalysts connecting to the same server on the same ports via the shows network?

I trust Catalyst not to crash but I've been asked to provide a system with a hot back up running that can also deliver serial control as well as cameras and play back.

paul kenah reported at the national theatre - that they had been able to use these devices with 2 computers- check with him?
if they support udp serial data you can do this- the lantronix boxes i used on the millenium dome installation - also used to do this-

    Hi Finn,
Sorry about the delay in replying to this post.
We run a tracking back up system here and had the same problem with the avocent box.
As richard quite rightly points out we now use the easy sync box as you can specify the number of clients connecting to it, which is ideal as you want both the main and the back up to connect at the same time.
Just watch the pin out on the box as you will need a null modem cable to connect from it to the projector -anyway tell you how to suck eggs

    hope that helps

Just got 4 port version of box you recommended. Worked straight out of the box. Lovely.

People might be interested to know you can also use it as a TCP server and specify the max number of clients connected so multiple cats can use the same box. So far I've had up to four happily working.

Also, as Paul kindly told me the company is now called VS Com and the Product is a NetCom. http://www.vscom.de

Yes I'm assuming they've changed their name, or get rebranded in the uk. My boxes are marked as "easy sync" but the documentation that cames with them is "net com"
