It happened irrespective of the clip running - it was a different one each time. Didn't appear hot, although I did think of this and have added a desk fan! I'll also verify the system when I get a chance.

more than likely a hardware problem.
please create a pdf profile from m119.
most of the time disc errors are logged in the system log and are viewable in this document.

Looks like an issue with dongle recognition - hardware as you suggested.
