Hi Richard,
Experienced random full system crash (ie: had to pull power on locked out G5) whilst running m111. Wasn't altering output at the time, 6 layers running one file (uselayer) everything just stopped.
Rebooted the machine and Cat app, system crashed again immediately.
Started a different copy of cat app and put in all the settings again. This time, the clip stopped playing but did not crash mac.
Restarted Cat app and all seemed fine (but upgrading to m119 for safety).

It happened irrespective of the clip running - it was a different one each time. Didn't appear hot, although I did think of this and have added a desk fan! I'll also verify the system when I get a chance.

more than likely a hardware problem.
please create a pdf profile from m119.
most of the time disc errors are logged in the system log and are viewable in this document.
Looks like an issue with dongle recognition - hardware as you suggested.
