Mini display port use
Hi all.
I was just wondering what people think of using the "mini display port" for output? I know that they work fine (I use the one on my MacBook pro everyday) I'd just be worried about how fiddlie the adapters seem to be relied on for large scale uses (epby which I mean catalyst on a show not just a second monitor on a desk)
I only ask as I notice through the apple store the graphic cards you can get only have a single dvi then one of the display ports (or 2 on the top model supposedly giving 3 screen support which raises another question of does that work.)
Sorry about the long post.
Thanks.

Mini Display Port works fine - although the connector has no locking mechanism... so can too easily be pulled out.
However - its the spec of the graphics card you have to be aware of and whether it works under Snow Leopard for catalyst use. (ATI 4870 / 5770 / 5870 don't May 2011)

MDP only supports Single Link DVI using the passive adaptors. There are powered adaptors available to support Dual Link DVI
As of May 2011 Best card to use with 4,1 and 5,1 MacPros running 10.6.7 is Nvidia Quadro 4000.

Hi Hamish
Also - the chipped GTX285's also work well if you are willing to take the risk on a non guaranteed piece of hardware. And they have two DVI outputs

Thanks Guys.
Out of interest has there been any change since the release of 10.6.6? no one had said anything about it in those threads.

no change so far (May 2011)
10.6.7 seems to work fine otherwise - but no ATI fixes...
