VS NetCom 411 is an industrial-strength network-based serial device server for connecting four RS232 device like CNC, PLC, weighting scale, scanner and other devices directly to the 10/100Mbps Ethernet network running TCP/IP.

Since DMX is basically a flavour of RS 232 are you suggesting that there would be a way to convert on of these into a dmx controller for catlayst?

Thanks Richard,

I would think this would really fall more into the device control area. Lots of 232 controlled equipment in the video worls, that you could trigger from SAMSC or catalyst.

While DMX is kinda a flavor of 232 (422 really), there are more limitations to running ethernet than DMX (100meters versus 1000 feet).

I use both the Avocent ESP2 2 port boxes and the easy sync single port box for controlling projectors via the custom serial section of the control window.

Both work fine, although you do require a null modem cable for the easy sync box (unless I have a setting wrong) the easy sync box does however let you you have more than one client, which is great if like myself you are running a system with a tracking backup server.

That's funny, my daughter and son in law left Devonport for London and hated it so much that they were back in 6 months. I'm living in Devonport by Old Lake Rd. It's realy nice but I hate flying to work every other month. Also the internet is so slow here.

It's a great place though.

I'm using Avosent ESP 4 to control two switchers amongst other things. Very easy. Simple DB9 cables. You can also monitor their status through an html browser. Would recommend to anyone.
