I am interested in feedback from users on Quarts composer. What are the best applications and what is the ease of use?

I found more toys to play with.
...and to think, I was using MAX to do stuff like that

We use Quartz a lot on live video things. It´s good for heavy effectwork on live video, and also rendering thin sharp lines that react to sound etc. For example here:

Also, you can relatively easy build custom video filters for use with VDMX etc.

Ease of use... None. It´s a bit bulky to use (maybe not if you´re used to MAX), but on the other hand it´s quite easy to understand the main principles and get started with.

We have not used Quartz things through Catalyst though, but I´ll look into it whenever I find the time.

problem with all this quartz composer stuff - and its been around since 2004 - is that its a huge performance hog-

catalyst uses the exact same technology quartz composer - but uses a much simpler interface - to keep performance up.

those pretty quartz composer demos use almost the entire graphics resources of the machine - to do just one thing-
they leave nothing left for anything else.

i keep testing this - its still just as bad.
