If you buy a Radeon 9800 Pro card over the counter to fit to your G5 it has a DVI output, a VGA ouput and an S-Video output. Has anyone used the S-video output at all?

I tried plugging mine into a projector today but got no signal at all.

I understand factory fitted Radeon cards have an ADI connector and a VGA connector.

If this S-Video is working it could prove very handy.

Does it require any additional setup within OS10.3 and is there a way of toggling which display it will show?

Unfortunately there is very little info in the Radeon manual....

Cheers,

Rob

you need to have the s-video cable plugged in when you turn on the computer, and have it plugged in to the projector.

or you need to click on 'detect displays' in the displays control panel.

The S-Video port does indeed work. It's easier and cheaper to convert a video signal like S-Video to SDI than a data signal like XGA.

Very interesting. Will experiment with the S-video out. Shame they don't put two on it!

in the latest version of the ati radeon displays control panel, you can turn on the s-video output permanently.

We used the S-video output on the eurovision in Riga 2003. The only thing against it really is the actual plug itself, doesn't really feel that good.

you can also buy apple dvi-svideo convertors - for cards which dont have a s-video out.
they are only $20 -$40

i just bought 3 of them.
