Hi

I wonder what kind of preformance and possibility there is to use the "old" G4 hardware from Catalyst 1.2 for the Catalyst DV?
We find that alot of customer´s use only simple 1 - 2 layers with our Catalysts. And a way of getting more systems out there is to use the old G4 hardware from the 1.2
The thought is to limit the media to PAL resolution DV and only small pics.
Its even worth it to put separate SCASI disks in.
The Graphics Card is a Nvidia or The ATI Radeon8500 withever is more suitable.

I rather do that then having people saying that they can use inferior systems like the Maxxedia och Brasch or, or, or.

So please give a balanced answer, i know this is not a hi class q, but...;)

All the best

highend sold such a variety of systems with v1 its not possible to give a definitive answer.

the main points are:
No testing of software is done on old g4's.
catalyst v3 only works with ati video cards. you need at least a radeon 8500 - but they arent sold any more.
you will need to add a second disc internally, using the system disc to do media kills performance.

you might get 2 layers.
its up to you to test.

you have to remember that the mac mini has more ummph than the first g4's that were sold with catalyst.

you are on your own to test perfomance and reliablity of old g4's.
It is at your own risk.

you need to ask highend what their policy is....

I do not know what they say.
