hdr fx1 info

http://www.sonyhdvinfo.com/

so what is the hdr fx1?

it shoots at greater than standard definition.
and costs around $3500 from bhphotovideo - around the same price as a standard definition vx2100.

it shoots up to 1440x1080 pixels, depending on how the specs are interpreted.

its not the first consumer grade camera to do this. jvc had a camera first.
but the sony camera works much better than the jvc one.
The jvc camera had terrrible low light performance.

its shoots and records high definition ( hdv ) on standard mini-dv tapes using an mpeg2 encoded stream at around 25mbps - the same data rate as standard dv.

Seems nice, need to get one! I been playing around for some days with the fx1 (still waiting for the other model HRV1ZE that have some greater stuff)

I´m now using the LumiereHD plug to extract the film into FCHD, Have you
any experince with that? (seems that Imovie almost can do with quality here, that´s looking very good also.

no. dont have lumiereHD plugin.

I think the latest release of Final Cut Express supports HDV import.

I havent had time to play with iMovie HD yet - but it does a sensible thing with HDV footage, it converts it to something else.

HDV is NOT editable in its native MPEG2 form.

Its an MPEG2 stream with IBP frames.

I do have an HDR-FX1 - its fantastic.

Lara manged to capture HDV footage from my HDR-FX1 onto my laptop last night using Imovie HD it was pretty straightforward.

Imovie puts copies of the captured clips inside the project file/bundle as separate quicktime clips.

These are NOT mpeg2 clips but in something called 'Apple Intermediate format'.
MPEG2 is not editable

Just did a little fx shoot with the hdr-fx1 - editing in imovie HD wasnt going to work well.

so i bought a copy of final cut express - which works really well at editing hdv footage.
