They test a variety of standard drives, as a boot drive.
A boot drive does not have to have the same specs as a media drive

it appears that the ultimate boot drive would be a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 with its 16MB buffer, not the 10K Raptor -- not even dual 10K Raptors. Though I would recommend the DM 10's "sister" drive, the MaXLine III, with it's higher quality construction and longer warranty (5 years versus 3 years*).
