So what does pixelmad do?

It allows you to mix multiple quicktime movies in layers together on screen
and output that image either dmx which is sent to DMX lighting fixtures.

PixelMAD can also take up to 2 video inputs from sdi or composite or webcam sources and also mix these together, with movie playback.

Different versions of pixelMAD support different number of playback layers, different numbers of video inputs and outputs, and different numbers of dmx fixtures.

Pixelmad 1 & 2 support a single video or dmx fixture output with 2 or 4 movie layers.
Pixelmad 4 & 8 support 2 outputs using a dual head graphics card - either of which ( or both ) can be configured to output dmx or video.

Pixelmad comes with around 40 different colour modes to mix layers together, and 40 different visual fx to change the shape of the movies.

Pixelmad can be controlled from a lighting desk using 40 channels per layer, or from 200 built-in presets which can be triggered from a single dmx channel, the keyboard, midi*, midi show control* or a web browser* (* planned for release in the next month )
The DMX channel assignment is identical to Highend's Catalyst.
Pixelmad has more visual and colour fx than Catalyst and includes support for a limited number of 3d objects and other things that highend cannot support.

PixelMAD can drive hundreds of LED fixtures per mixed video output, on up to 40 DMX universes.

You will get best performance across the most layers with a Dual G5 2Ghz, with a radeon 9800 video card.
The number of layers you can play is also determined by your hard disc setup. A 10000rpm sata raptor drive or scsi 10k drive is required for more than 3 layers of playback at full frame rate of 25fps or 30fps with standard definition DV or photojpeg files.

Pixelmad supports other configurations with varying performance levels.

with a video input card. you can convert the video input into pixel information
