Ok, so I knew this day was coming soon but it looks like all new macs from the apple store come with mavericks pre-installed now.... awesome. Anyone do any testing on mavericks yet? I have an installation where I need to put in some catalyst servers and I was curious if catalyst works on it at all. Or if anyone knows a good place to buy mac minis that have mountain lion on them...

Mac-Minis (and all other Macs) will still run Mountain Lion for the moment... so I'd stick with a tested working platform for the moment - rather than a new OS...

You can re-image a Mac-Mini easily via firewire.

I would love to stay with ML for the moment, but I am not all that up to speed on what OS you can and can't use on each model. So if I purchased a new mini from apple with mavericks pre-installed I could still just use a ML install disc and re-install ML? Or do I have to have some other sort of setup to make this work. I don't have a mini that already had ML on it to make a clone of, so that is why I am asking.

Current macMinis will run ML - issues may occur when apple changes the hardware.
Since Mavericks has only just been released, most stock in-store probably hasn't been updated yet...

The easiest way to install is with a clean disk image.
You need another mac with ML to be able to create the disk image
Then install it on the MacMini using target mode via firewire.

there are no ML 'instal discs' for MacMinis because they don't have CD/DVD drives...

well, you can create an install disc on a USB, I have done it before. You just download the ML install and make it a mountable USB disc.
I was just wondering if I ordered a brand new mac mini from apple did they do something that would inhibit me from installing ML on it.... I am not that in the know about apple stuff.
I was thinking maybe a refurb would work but I can never seem to get the config I want.
But seeing the post about a small bug hopefully this will be a non-issue
thanks

probably not... All existing MacMinis run ML and there hasn't been a hardware change. My local Apple store still ships with ML not Mavericks

- I doubt any store will open up all their existing stock, unwrap them and update from ML to Mavericks!!...

Where are you based? - We have ML disk images. Too big to email though...

I am in Fort Lauderdale, FL A little ways away.
And ian, that mac mini here is running leopard....lol,
I think the SL and SR screens have ML, but they are older ones, like 2 years old so I don't think that image would work.

If it comes down to it and we have to do this install I may need to get that image from you. We have a company cubby account I could give you access to so you could upload it over night or something. I'll check the apple store though, that might be a good bet.
Thanks!

Any chance you could elaborate on the type of bug please?

Many thanks.

they removed an old network library - i had been using for more than 10 years-

obviously - when they remove something that one has been using for such a long time - without any problems - at all-
it takes a bit of time to test a replacement…..

and of course this has broken every piece of software i released in the last 10 years…. including all versions of catalyst pixelmad and samsc…
