Has anyone had good results using this piece of kit?

Blackmagic UltraStudio Express, Thunderbolt

http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/ultrastudiothunderbolt/techspecs#27527

Considering using it for 1 X HD-SDI video into retina display MacBook Pro.

Will Catalyst recognize the Thunderbolt input?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Did you get one and test yourself?? Or are you still waiting for someone to test it.....
I'm looking at the same option and have the same question basicly :)

This will work, The extreme works as well and so does the mini recorder. However it will have some latency, and minor little skips/lag here and there. Depends what FPS you want catalyst to output. At 59.94 or 60 none of these work that well...
if you choose 30 FPS, then it will probably be acceptable. Depends on what your source is, simple stuff is fine, fast live action, not so much.

Hi,

Was able to do a quick test with the Ultrastudio Mini Recorder last monday. Worked within 5 minutes and looked very stable.
Ordered 2 of them and expecting them anyday now to do some proper testing...

So far it looked promising. 720p and 1080p without any problem.

i have used them without issue. The ultra 4k however does not work well.

I have bought an ultra studio but it doesn't work. It if first to do demonstrations, i can see my input is ok, in the black magic media express, but impossible to see an image in catalyst. Any idea?
Thanks

I assume you have the video inputs enabled, etc in catalyst?

Yes, I know the minimum, it finally works hdmi or sdi. The problem was to find the right input format. Oups.
And it seems a GoPro can't give me the right format.

Yes, its not a scan converter so you would have to hit one of the resolutions that it understands. A http://www.decimator.com in line would be a cost effective way to fix that.
