Where can I find instruction on how to use the "User Text" effect in catalyst?

Hi Dan

browse to the Catalyst's web server, easiest way is via the HELP menu.

Using the VisualFX menu, select FX 97 and then using the Text Editor link, enter the text into the fields on the page.

Click on Update at the bottom of the webpage to apply the changes.

You can then use video FX 97 in the Catalyst layer, and change the font etc using the FX parameters.

also don't forget this visual effect uses 8 parameters. You will need click on the triangle in the bottom right of the visual effect parameter, at the top of the layer, to access the extended visual/colour effect parameters.

Thanks for the instruction. One more question, how would this patch via dmx. I've not used the extended dmx channels, yet. If you can give me an example of how to patch one layer with extended dmx channels I'd greatly appreciate it.

The extended visual and colour effects parameters are an additional fixture in the DMX patch.

So patch a layer as normal, but in addition also patch the extended visual effects fixture and/or the extended colour effects fixture.
