I got this scary message during a show last night

It came when the catalyst was doing nothing at all (except some black masking) It has run fine for over a month and when I tested the software after it was ok.

Does this just happen sometimes? I have worked with the system for about a year and have never had any problems with craches.....

I´m in for a scary night to night :(

Best regards

Create a Catalyst system profile from within catalyst and send it to either Richard or myself.

Did you get a copy of the report?

It happent again last night and allmost at the same time as last :( this time I relaunched the software came on fine. (After the audiance had looked at my desktop image for 30 seconds :o There was no problems the day before.

I did not look at the report as I was to busy getting it up and running again. But it is very strange that it happent at the same point in the show twice! In my head it sounds like it is something coming from the lighting console but I dont know what it should be?

I will try to recreate the situation today and see if I can make it crash again.

Hello Anders

can you try a Full Scan of the content to see if that causes a crash? If it does, you may have a corrupt content file in your library.

@ Simon: How do I create the "Catalyst system profile"?

@ Neville: Do you a regular scan of the library? Thats the only one I know of.

I have tried to make it crash again but there is no problems now. I have not changed any files for the last three weeks and there has been no problems so there schould be no corrupt content files.

Go to the Catalyst menu
select option 'create support PDF profile'
this will create a PDF - which you can email

'Full scan' creates thumbnails of the content - and if you have corrupted content will indicate where this might be at the point it (unfortunately) crashes...

'Quick scan' (when you hold shift - or select the option from remote menu or webserver) - does not create thumbnails, and is quicker for lots of content - but may not indicate if there is any corrupted content.

Have you figured out what was happening both times when it crashed?

I'd also suggest checking to see if file sharing is turned off in Mac OS. If something else on the network is trying to access or even change a file, it might freak out a bit.

@sam-hunt

File sharing is an oldie but a goody. All to easy to leave on...

Is this a laptop or desktop machine and is it on a UPS?

We have had issues with machines with SSD's where sudden voltage spikes/dips can cause Catalyst to crash. Interestingly it does not effect spindle based drives.

If so it may be worth trying a UPS to see if that solves the problem.
