Hi all,

What would be the best way to extend DVI? Distances between 25-50m.
Something like Extron dvi extenders or CAT5 or fiber extenders?
In both touring and fixed situations.

Thanks,

Peter

Fiber extenders - look at Think Logical or Lightware.

Have used TL for 6 years - using ST multimode fiber -- very easy to use

Fiber -Magenta voyager work well and you can bolt on RS232

If you are only going 50m then the Gefen HDMI ELR units might be ok. -A lot of the DVI over cat 5 units can be fickle and won't do the stated distance especially with connectors in line so I would test before purchase

Kramer also has nice Fiber-Cables, with or without coper/EDID

PMD DVI-Beam works also great

The only Gefen product I have ever used without problem:

DVI FM 1000 Extenders

The only issue with these are if you are outputting from a TH2G. If you do output from a TH2G then you will need a DVI DA on each of the TH2G output you wish to extend. Even still, use these things all the time and they work great.

A better pair (although I haven't tried them) are the DVI FM1500 DVI Extender with Recordable EDID

I would suggest those instead because they also have the recordable EDID but since I haven't tried them, I don't know how well they work.

These guys work fine with MM or SM fibres:

Have used Magenta Research Infinea DVI and HD One products. They work great with copper, and you can by them with fibre too.

Thinklogical VelocityDVI systems work well too.

We use the Extrons 101 Fiber adapters and FIBER
Not that expensive anymore
And works great, with NO Compression

HI Gian,

How about using the Decklink DVI extender, sends DVI into SDI.... SDI cables are very affordable and can be serviced on site....

Same as the Opticis M1-201DA-TR, but grey. I think - it's opticis inside.

I returned 9 of these devices. Picture breaks down sometimes at one of the LED screen. But work with DVI monitor. Does not like the heat. M1-201SA-TR too.

Kramer 610R/T work fine.
