View Full Version : Problem with pixelation in Catalyst

Afternoon all.

We're having a bit of a Catalyst practice day here at our theatre (it's a fairly new bit of kit and we're slowly getting our heads round it!), and have encountered an interesting conundrum.

We're finding that all our images and videos outputting through Catalyst are much more pixelated than they are when played through Quicktime or Preview.

Has anyone else encountered something similar?

Our projector is outputting at 1024 x 768, as is Catalyst. We have tried changing resolutions of the images and videos and haven't had much luck there.

I hope that makes sense, and would be grateful for any advice you all may have!

Many Thanks,

Ben Crawford

Has no one come across anything like this?

Can you send a sample of one of your files with which you are having an issue?

What codec / filetype / resoution are you using?

Most of the time - it is due to content encoding - unless you are running a particular visual effect or massively scaling the image...

can you send a screenshot / picture of what you are seeing.

If you need to organise some training to help get your heads round it - do get back to me.

Regards

Simon

I currently haven't got access to our Catalyst, but will send an image through when I get a chance!

We have, however, tried it with numerous images and videos with different resolutions and codecs and are still encountering the same problem. All images are being used without effects, and none of the images are in theory being scaled massively!

It seems like the resolution in Catalyst is no where near the same as the main desktop, even though Catalyst is taking its information from the system preferences.

When I'm back with it, I will have a look at the codecs of the files and see if these are not quite right (I'd be interested to see, as they have come from lots of different sources!).

Until then I'd be grateful for any more help you'd be able to offer.

Many thanks,

Ben

what is the desktop resolution set to in system preferences?

After catalyst starts - what does the catalyst control window show as the resolutions on each screen?

I'ts possible that you might have a setting enabled in catalyst that is reducing the screen resolution.

You mention that your content is from a 'lot of different sources'...
I'm sure that it must be royalty free - or you own the copyright / licence... ?
Do check the codecs and resolutions of your content - if it is internet sourced - this may explain the problem...

Do get back to me if you need some more help
