Hi All,

I have a problem with Catalyst not playing AIC MOV files.

I have just batch converted a pile of mpeg4's into AIC's using Apple's Compressor in FCP, everything converted and the files played fine in Catalyst V4.2 m257 on a MacPro running 10.6.4, The same files do not play on a MacPro running 10.5.8 in Catalyst, does anyone have an idea why this may be ?

I know the simple solution is to run 10.6.4 on all my machines but this sometimes give me problems when using AS Input cards hense me having 10.5.8 on some servers

Any help greatly received

Sounds like the codec is not there. Check in quicktime to make sure that Apple Intermediate Codec is even in the list of available codecs for export... I suspect its not...

Hi Dave,

make sure that the AppleIntermediateCodec.component file is in

/Library/Quicktime/ folder on your system drive

NO! If you can avoid 10.6.4 and remain at 10.6 you would be better. At least remain there until the 10.6.5 update is released, tested, and shows to fix the quicktime bug that showed up in 10.6.2.

After spending the last month or so doing some serious testing with different OS versions, it really depends on what your hardware configuration is and also the situation you are intending to use Catalyst for.
10.6.4 with the graphics update works well with Nvidia(GTX285 and GT120) cards once you have all the firmware and drivers upto date on late 2009 early 2010 Mac Pros.

Each OS version has pluses and minuses, and apple seem to be dropping the ball on how stuff gets fixed or broken.

Oh and AIC is not a standard codec that is loaded on new machines... you either need to have a application that install it or do what Nev said.

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help and input,

Nev, it was the AIC codec missing in the quicktime folder, Catalyst running AIC mov files now.

Thanks again,

Dave.
