Run a dual head to go,
Running 1 file chasing timecode,
1 submix with just that 1 file,
the other submix on the other output with that same file, but with a circle mask.
Is this possible on a mac mini with dual head?
I would probably buy the server version, and swap the 2nd drive out for a SSD.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
josh

Why would you need to run a dual head on a mac-mini as it has 2 outputs?

not recommended.... bear in mind that mac-mini has shared graphics memory.

A 2nd output reduces performance. A dual-head may make it worse.

Do test your own configuration and find out the results.

Hi Josh

testing has shown that the performance with an SSD drive in an external Firewire 800 enclosure is slightly better than replacing the internal drive with an SSD. You may want to save some money on buying the server version and go for the similar spec 'standard' and gain a DVD drive! That is - if you can deal with using an external content drive.

Nev - why did you delete your posts?
Trying yo run an LCD in addition to a DH2G may affect adversely affect performance

Nev - Do you have data you can share for the comparison between FW800 and internal SSD? Any particular FW800 enclosure and SSD?

Josh - take a look at this thread:

What resolution are you considering?
depending upon resolution and content - with just 2 outputs it may be achievable (server version or otherwise)

For Res I was thinking 1024x768 for each output.
With the content being the same res.

Hi Josh

you may get around 4 layers of 1024x768 using AIC codec - content / system dependant.
