These are tests done with a single layer with 35 different codec settings, at different sizes and different compression rate.
Tests were done with a single file down converted from 1080p footage to different codecs.
Times are done on a single external Atlas IV 10k scsi drive with 140GB.
G5 Dual 2Ghz with 512MB. OS 10.3.3, Quicktime 6.5 .
Conclusion
DV-PAL, DV-NTSC are the best.
Photojpeg only works as well as DV codec at 50% compression setting.
Pixlet is slower than photojpeg at most compression and sizes.
On a fast scsi drive, uncompressed codecs perform very well...
The blackmagic codecs are all uncompressed.
DV-PRO codecs perform reasonably well - if you need slightly better quality than DV.
These results are for a single layer only.
