Is it possible to just play an audio file that has no video track in Catalyst? If not, request to do so please :-)

Try using the "Play Audio" from Play Modes.

Hope this helps. :)

Yes But it must be encoded as a movie. You cannot play MP3 etc directly.
Put it onto a movie which is always black and use the Play Audio playmode.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Inconvenient to have to attach a movie to each clip I want to play, ah well.

But Catalyst IS a video playback system, not a jukebox after all!

All syncing and playback is frame based - the heart of what we are doing.

With the software available these days, its not too much effort to export audio as a quicktime file

Yes but it also IS a show controller which is what I use it for to test systems. Not for the video playback capability. SAMSC is End of Line so I had to upgrade to this and having to make a video file for every sound file I do is a waste 'o time.

its tricky to fix directly - as the video playback engine is frame based -and audio files dont have frames

I use audio movies in Catalyst all the time. Render them as black frame AIC at 160x120. I have done this with 31 audio files and one HD video file with no frame loss.

Hi Todd,

So will no frame loss mean no audible delay because if we"ll use, the sound needs a cut in? It will be triggered from the lighting desk.

Thanks,

Peter

As an experiment, I made 30 black frame movies with an audio track each and initiated playback of all simultaneously. It worked like a multitrack playback. Didn't have hiccups
