HD Displays

A question for those working in HD: Which displays are you using? I'm looking for some new LCD monitors ideally 22" to run @1920 x 1200. In the past I've used Viewsonic but read mixed reviews on their HD offering.

I use the following 24in LCD for HD work:

BenQ FP241W (http://benq.co.uk/products/LCD/?product=636)
Has just about every input you'd want
I have 2 on my desk that get used constantly. Not the best for touring - but fine otherwise.

However, the BenQ G2400WD is a good 24in LCD at a sensible price. It has DVI/VGA/HDMI and does 50Hz too. Its also a good size and design to fit in a flightcase easily (better than FP241W)

Theres also a Dell 24in out there that is similar spec to the FP241W and is usually compared in many reviews against the FP241W - I think its slightly more expensive and slightly less features.

The BenQ G2400WD seems good value. Not as good colour quality as a mac monitor - but then its about a third of the price...

The 24in above both do HD, have 1:1 options and run up to 1920x1200@60Hz

Haven't found any 22in that do 1920x1200 - don't think there were any around until recently? Most seem to stop at 1620x1050...

The Viewsonic one is the only one of the 3 which includes support for Mac in the spec, not that this appears to count for much.

I have been using these (or their equivalents) for over two years, I find them very good. Recently I have tried the Samsung T240's which have a sharper image then the Dells.

Support for mac - does it really mean anything on a 'telly'?

I am also using the BenQ FP241W.

It is a really bright and high contrast display - was the best deal I found at that time (aprox. 18 months ago) - the PIP for the Composite and S-Video Inputs are a nice faeture when working with Live Video input.

I also have some Samsung 24" 1920x1200 consumer Displays - but they are not as bright, brightness in not homogenously distributed - contrast and viewing angle are much worse than with the BenQ.

All the mentioned monitors are good workhorses.

The only thing I would mention is with the dells, the height adjust has a habit of sticking and not releasing. This means that they become a bit of a faff to plug in the DVI day in day out.
I have had this on many of the new dell displays, and it does become very annoying.

Does anyone know any 20-24" Monitors that will accepts resolutions in both 1920x1200 and 1920x1080? I have some nice 24" monitors that will do 1920x1200 and even 3840x1200 but they sure dont like 1920x1080.

The BenQ LCD mentioned : G2400WD & FP241W do accept both 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 at 60Hz. Never tried 3840x1200.

The largest pixel count I have ever found on a monitor is 2560 x 1600 for the Dell and Apple 30". Haven't seen 3840. Granted, I have been using my Matrox TripleHead2Go and DualHead2Go devices to output 2x1920 but never on Catalyst and never in a show environment.

I use Dell monitors (the cheap ones) just as confidence monitors. I was able to buy a whole bunch of them from the factory outlet for only a few hundred USD. The refresh rate sucks and the pixels are fuzzy but they are also not something I depend on.

The BenQs Simon mentioned or Apple Cinema Displays, even the higher quality Dells are find and tend to be the ones I use for more mission critical work. Still, the issue is to evaluate what your needs are and if all you need is a quick view to verify what you're putting up on the stage then buy cheap. This way you won' be hurt as much when someone breaks one.

Thanks everyone. I went with a 22" Dell in the end. It was inexpensive, has a reasonable picture quality, and a quick release detachable stand which enables it to travel flat for a slimline flightcase.
