View Full Version : Booting Catalyst on Start up

My older racks did it fine when I booted catalyst via system preferences>accounts>login items.

but for some reason now it boots into Catalyst, goes to active screen, and then I get the blue bars of a none functioning dongle. If I quit Catalyst and open it myself it works fine.

I think that the catalyst boot is happening before the USB detection, how do I fix that?

thanks

John

Hi John

this has been discussed several times on Catvx - have a look at:

http://chaldee1.gotadsl.co.uk/~richardb/upload/showthread.php?t=856

It is a driver issue, the dongle driver does not load before Catalyst starts up. Putting the delay script in solves this.

Hi,

I've had similar problems, with multiple servers. After one server had been updated to OS 10.4.11 the problem solved itself... So a quick update for all made it work flawlessly...

it depends on the load order of the applications- and system extensions at startup. how this is done depends on what apple does at startup-

dongle driver needs time to load-

this was solved by delaying startup of catalyst after reboot as nev pointed out.

I've noticed on 10.4.11 that it if catalyst is in the startup items, seems to work ok and boot properly with no blue bars (v4. m67)

It used to be necessary to use my startup script, but it was originally written for 10.3 and didnt seem to work on 10.4 at first - I havent had a chance to re-look at it again...

Will let you know if I make any further progress next week.

Simon

apple must have changed the load order at startup of extensions and applications.

they do fiddle around with these things.

i dont know what happens on leopard.
