you could try play audio modes - they might work.

I only ever ran into this once, and here's what I did:
I cut the content up into about 30 min segments with about 2 seconds of overlap (ie- the last two seconds of the current clip are exactly the same as the first two seconds of the next one), and then I did a crossfade between layers with split timing (to reduce an intensity dip), with the incoming layer being triggered to play once forward with intensity.
Then once the first layer was out I then MARK-ed it to play the next clip.....etc....etc...etc.
This kept all the movie clips contained to two layers to leave resources open for other things.
Getting the timing right was a little tricky, but not all that hard really. Just a few tweaks here and there.
It all worked very well in the end.
