I was wondering if this DVD Player is controlable via Catalyst,
Tascam DV-D01U
It does have a RS-232 input, but to be honest, I am not very Serial saavy...
Here is the link to the information page at Tascam.com
http://www.tascam.com/details;8,23,108.html
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to control it via the sony 9 pin control,
But I am ok with using custom 232 commands, as long as it works,
As I am reading this,
This command should be "Play"
02h 3eh 50h 4ch 59h 63h 46h 57h 44h 20h 20h 20h 20h 20h 31h 37h 03h

Does that make sense?
Thanks!!

Consider that the DVD controller it's not DMX ready . The custom serial commands are . So you want to trigger via DMX consolle you can't use the DVD controller .

piece of advise :
Why don't you consider to import the DVD as movies into MAC hd ?
It will be much easier and safe .

dont think he mentioned dmx.
as the latency of dvd players is quite long.
having dmx control is not really useful.
not the best thing really.

---

he just wants to play it. using custom serial string-

my dvd controller works with pioneer 7300 and 8000 series professional dvd players.

So pretty much the format is just to drop the h's
That looks great,
Thank you very much!

dvd players dont usually respond like a deck- they have tracks and chapters.
their timecode values arent unique - and other wierd things.

they need their own controller- i have one in the latest version of the software for the dvd-v8000 series.
i have worked with the pioneer pro dvd players for many years.
the current model is the dvd-v8000 - i tested one recently

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310070065_315329303,00.html

and they always seem to do the right type of things. they respond accurately and well.

yes you can.

you can put cues into a cue list then trigger the cues.

this is actually more straightforward.

only uses a single channel, and doesnt have a mode.

yes. and for hexadecimal 'h' use square brackets.

their format seems to be a combination of characters - i think you could rewrite it as

[023e]"PLYcFWD 17"[03] - with five space characters

the quotes indicate ascii characters

Since we are on that discussion,... by any chance you have a custom serial for Pioneer 7400.
Thanks

yes.

pioneer 7300, 7400 and 8000 all use same commands.
