Many have asked for Catalyst preview , i personaly think this is just a placebo , btw preview it's here already .

So how to preview content ?

Open Catalyst

Goto fullScreen

Click on layers

On Layers Click on FX On , turn it off if it's Red .

there you go , you can now see what is loaded in the different layers even if the dimmer is off .

In my opinion Catalyst users should always have a companion like a little Mac Book ( just 999 euro )

A Mac book cost like two monitors .

With a mac book it's possible to remote preview content , it's possible to set a remote server using Apple Remote Desktop ( to be turned off during show time ) .

I hope this is helpy .

in my opinion it's one of the most important feature. i use this in each show. all my catalyst media server are backstage in the near of video projectors. then we have short vga or dvi cables directly to each projector and just one network cable to foh. and it's much easier to install one cat5/6/7 cable as 2 or more 100 metre rgbhv cable.

then i use file sharing for content management, apple remote desktop (but turn it off, if you're in showtime - it cost a lot of performance) and secure shell. all with just a minimac or powerbook.

and you can shutdown all computers from front of house with a mouse click in catalyst;-)
