View Full Version : Is there a max resolution for QT files?

I´m fiddling around with some large files and Catalyst seems to not want to play them, they go all black. They are 2400 x 450, and 3072 x 576. And I´m trying to play them out from a TH2G.

Is there a limit I don´t know about?

I´m not planning to run a Catalyst show with these files, I´m just testing different software and performance. So far Quartz Composer is winning, and Isadora is usable.

well that's true ... but not 100% . It seams that some GPU can handle bigger textures 4096x4096 .

Btw the apple machines distribute by HES don't handle textures bigger then 2048x2048 .

It seams that nvidea quadro Fx can handle 4096x4069 . I did not try it my self
( the cost for a Quadro it's around 1600 euro )

I think it is tied to Quicktime also. Motion will give you a message about a maximum of 2048 if you try and build an element that is larger than that.

It might be a safety that Apple has built in. Who knows, maybe it will increase with 10.5 and the inevitable update of quicktime.

Opps sorry , I mean even motion ( iThink ) can hendle bigger texture if you have a better GPU .

older graphics cards only supported up to 2048.
but with newer ones its more.

this limit at the moment is in catalyst - as this kindof thing needs to be tested.
and lots of catalyst systems use older machines.

i have software that works with bigger files -

but it is not tested on any older machines.

or any older computers other than intel machines. nothing more than 6 months old.

what kind of GPU ?

CPU it's important but not as GPU it is in this case .

1.8: x800
2.5: standard GPU. Don´t remember which one
2.66: x1900 and standard GPU
